Background
Togo is located in West Africa boarded by Ghana to the west, Benin to the east, and Burkina Faso to the north. It extends south to the Gulf of Guinea. Togo land is covered 34,934 square miles between the British Gold Coast colony to the west and French Dahomey to the east. German's first interaction with Togo was the arrival of missionaries in 1847 to work for the largest tribe group in the Togo, the Ewe. German traders soon followed, establishing a base at Anecho on the coast. Togo eventually formed part of the slave coast , from where captives were shipped abroad by European slavers during the 17th century. In 1884 it became the German protectorate of Togo land.
Current Affairs
Togo's transition to democracy was a slow process when president Eyade'ma , who ruled Togo, died of a heart attack. This required a new presidential election. Gnassingbe was elected president of Togo , however electoral fraud was also being suspected. Issues in Togo currently would include , deforestation and the use of wood for fuel; water pollution causes health issues and stops the fishing industry; also the air pollution is currently increasing. Togo's main exports include, cocoa, phosphates, coffee, and cotton. Togo is among the worlds poorest countries. Isolation has further angered its poor and weak economy.

Togo is a small black Sub-Saharan nation that is south coast of West Africa bordering on Ghana to the west, Burkina Faso to the north, and Benin to the east.

Some Togolese textile art are wax prints or batik, or indigo cloth.
POLITICS
After Eyadema died, his son, Faure Gnassingbe held office for the rest of his father's term.
